The start of the school year this year was fairly neutral for me – I wasn’t over the top excited but I wasn’t dreading it either. It is my grade 11 year – the year your grades actually count, so that was a little stressful, but other than that I was just glad to get back to learning and seeing my friends!
September started out somewhat chill, but quickly got busier! Every weekend had something on the calendar – but I enjoyed it all.
Semptember 4, 2018 we headed back to school! I’m in Grade 11, Cassia – Grade 9, and Lanaya began Grade 7.
Now that I have my license I have a lot more freedom to go places – so Mariah and I headed off to Estevan, our closest city (and also 45 minutes away) to do some shopping, and eat some food!
Everything went well – except for the part where my phone slid off the console, and wedged itself under my seat. Mariah stuck her arm down, and then everything went downhill because her arm got stuck… Mariah, and I for that matter, are somewhat dramatic and so she began to yell loudly in my ear, while me, the new driver, tries to calmly get to the Timmy’s just around the corner without crashing. We finally arrive in the Tim Horton’s parking lot, and I lift the edge of my seat up so that Mariah can pull both my phone and her hand out from under the chair. But surprise, surprise, there’s blood all over her hand and MY phone case… So then Mariah proceeds to yell louder and begins laughing really hard, while I grabbed my phone to go wipe off. Once in Tim’s we ran to the washroom, laughing the whole way, and got some water to get rid of all the blood…???? (Don’t worry, there was a lot of blood, but it was just a scratch in the end.)
The next day was Sunday, so Mariah and I suggested to the Young People that we go to the corn maze near Frobisher, that we had driven past on the way home from Estevan! We ran through the maze so fast, and Heidi, Chloe and I were the first ones out… (We even beat the ones who cut through the corn to different paths!????)
That same day Mariah and I matched and as we were taking photos Mariah yelled “Quick! Get a photo of this!” Then she proceeded to taser me in the side while laughing evilly – and this was after she made me stand on the downhill side of her so that we would actually look our usual heights… I was so disappointed because even in heels I’m not taller than her, but it was fine – I survived.????
I feel like country people often fall under all the stereotypes…???? But sometimes we like to have a little fun and mock the people who mock us – by wearing cowboy boots with skinny jeans, a major faux pas out here in the wild west.????
One night after supper I was doing the dishes and it looked so peaceful outside – then I glanced up and saw the “Give Thanks” sign above the window. I felt a strange sense of peace and took a photo in hopes to capture the mood… I don’t know if I accomplished that, but here’s a reminder to give thanks in everything that you do.
On September 12 we celebrated my Mom’s birthday! I won’t tell you how old she is – because her beauty outshines her age…????
A couple days after her birthday my Mom and the lady she team-teaches with, Aunty Amanda, took their SS class on a class trip as a reward for learning a certain amount of verses each by a certain date! I went on two of these trips while I was in their class and they were always a blast!
Then, thanks to Joanna, who instigated the girls first tea party last year, she held our second annual formal night – and this time we were generous and even invited the guys…???? Most of us were able to make it (about five or six are missing) and it was an amazing time!
Most of us girls perched on the train tracks in Carnduff.❤️
We were the only four in black, so of course we had to get a photo together! Left to Right: Me, Mariah, Joanna, and Kirsten.
Cassia helped plan the games but before we played any, we sang a song – of which the name currently escapes me…???? It was an amazing evening and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
On September 21, we left for my cousin, Joanna’s, wedding in Osoyoos, BC. As we were getting into the truck I noticed there was frost – in September… But that was just a foretaste of what was to come once October arrived!????
When we left Saskatchewan it was 0*C out, when we arrived my long sleeved shirt was quickly exchanged as it was a balmy 20*C!????
My beautiful cousin Joanna and her new hubby Voja, along her parents.
After the outdoor wedding was finished, there were snacks served on the lawn outside, but a rainstorm came up and so we all raced inside and then drove to the lodge where the reception was held. And while we were waiting for the bride and groom to arrive, my Uncle Kyle was his usual jokester self…????
The wedding party; Gayle, Joanna and Voja, along with Voja’s brother.
After the wedding we raced home, but not after a photo with the cousins.
The next weekend my parents headed down to Denver, Colorado for some training, and my sisters, Chloe and I took my first longish road trip to Roseisle, MB, just over three hours away!
We stopped in Souris for supper, and you can’t go through Souris without stopping at the swinging bridge, so that is what we did.
While I was driving, hoping that my GPS was taking me to the right place, because I kept missing my turns and then having to turn around and go back, my parents were out on a date at a bowling alley.
We stayed at Marvin and Marlene’s and had a blast – as always. One of the highlights for me was singing in the giant empty grain bins during the young people’s one night. The accoustics were amazing!!!???? Then the group of us staying at the house, went back another night and sang some other hymns, and it still had the absolute wow factor!
When staying at the Dyck’s, late night quad rides through their many trails often occur! They usually involve a lot of screaming and laughter on my part…????
On Sunday at lunch, we took several more photos together! This is also where I introduce to you Valerie and Serenit! Valerie is Marvin and Marlene’s daughter who is close in age to me and one of my good friends! Serenity is from Ontario and I met her that weekend. Later on, in December, I got in touch with her because I saw she was doing Dressember as well. She invited me to join the Dressember team she had with some other girls! Which, by the way, is still receiving donations up until the end of January because January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. So if you missed your chance to donate in December, just click the following link to help end modern slavery! https://dressember-2018.funraise.org/fundraiser/raquenna-simonyigindele
Your weekends were indeed busy and fun filled. Nice to have so many friends to do things with. Thanks for sharing us in your life. Love you, Grampa and Grandma
Love sharing in your adventures and time with family and friend. I remember some of my early road trips. No GPS just a map or written directions”…..there were some wrong turns, and anxiety.
