Joshua Tree National Park

We have been staying near Palm Springs for the last few days. On Saturday, Dad decided to take us on an all-day exploring trip. As in leave early morning and get back after dark… We humoured him and didn’t complain too much. It turned out to be an awesome day seeing some really unique landscape!

Finally… freshly baked chocolate chip zucchini muffins!!! They were amazing!!!!!! You don’t realize how much you miss home made baking until you eat it! They made getting out of bed a little easier too!

We went on a few hikes in the park. On the first hike, we kept catching up with a couple who wanted their picture taken. It meant that we actually got some family photos too! 🙂 The tree we are standing beside is a Joshua Tree. They are really unique looking with VERY spikey leaves. They looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss book.

You’ll have to forgive my immaturity about this photo… Butt to say the least, there were some very interesting rock formations!

Loved this photo of my little sister, Cassia! While on some hikes we would clamber all over the huge rock formations. It was so much fun!!!

Some old Indian drawings on the rocks… I forget what they’re called, but there was a fancy scientific name for them on the sign…? Petroglyphs, maybe?

One of the rocks Cassia and Lanaya clambered up. There was a hard way and an easier way… they took the easy way – right after a guy had tried numerous times to make it up and then pretty much fell on his way down. They made him look pretty silly!!

A proud moment for Raquenna Simonyi-Gindele, I climbed up a crevice on the left side of this rock!!! And I have the scratches to prove it! The rock was sandstone and felt like gravel. I would jam one foot into the crevice then find a handhold and pull myself up. It was lots of fun!!!… And only a little painful.?

We went on a drive that, supposedly, needed 4-wheel drive… It didn’t! The roads were sandy but nothing our Dodge couldn’t handle!!! Apparently we were driving near the San Andreas Fault, but it had eroded too much so we couldn’t actually see it.

Licking a cactus… Just to say I did it! (Hopefully a coyote didn’t pee on that one…?)

Lanaya surfing the waves… From the inside it seriously looked like a wave was going to came crashing down!

Soooo, apparently we are rednecks. We heated up our tortillas and taco meat on the engine block. It was rather embarrassing to pull up to a crowded parking lot and open the hood to get our supper…

But, our tailgate supper did taste amazing after a long hot day spent exploring… Tacos!!!!!!

When your dad has a bald head…and you see the perfect photo op! A Gorgeous Sunset and Reflection; is what you could call it…?

A beautiful end to a beautiful day!

I enjoy all your posts Raquenna and see a steady improvement in your writing. The stories are more interesting and have more detail in them and make feel like that I am experiencing what you are writing about. Grandma and I are very proud of you. Love Grandad SG.
