Hermosillo, Mexico

Post number two! We spent around nine days in Hermosillo with Tim and Steph Woodford, and their seven kids; Mika, Shaelyn, Kyla, Vivian, Alisa, Nathaniel, and Gwendolyn!!! It was awesome, and I had a great time! They were amazing hosts, and treated us to all of the traditional Mexican sights and foods.

I took this picture in Texas heading towards Hermosillo. You may not notice it at first, but on the peak of the hill, there is a white cross. It made me smile, and it also encouraged me because it reminded me that there are other Christians out there- even in middle-of-nowhere Texas!

Mika(the oldest) and I dug a three foot hole then buried Alisa(third youngest) in it! Body surfing at this beach was AWESOME!!! You could see the perfect wave coming then prepare for it! There were also no fish, which I liked, because then I didn’t have to worry about landing on a moving something or another!!

A fruit bowl, with a shrimp cocktail, was delicious, and fresh!!!?

We also went out for hot dogs, which are famous in Sonora(the state.) There were a bunch of different taco stands lined up in a row and they all wave at you as you drive up, and wipe their tables off, and call you over. Then once you order, there are about 20 different toppings you can put on!! And not just the normal American ones; chorizo, guacamole, peppers, and things like that. They tasted AMAZING!

On Saturday we decorated gingerbread houses. They tested our patience but ended up looking totally amazing!

Our second early Christmas, celebrated on the 22nd! We weren’t allowed out of bed until seven, and we all just managed to achieve that, because at seven we were all sitting downstairs and staring at the presents.

It rained on “Christmas” and everyone was super excited!! The streets flooded and I felt bad for the people who lived down the hill from us! My mom joined us in dancing in the flooded streets until she found out the sewer had overflowed… Oh, and Christmas dinner was delicious!!

Our last night in Hermosillo we went out for hot dogs again, then to the park! This fountain was super cool; it was in a beautiful park placed randomly in the neighbourhood! As I was saying, the cool part about the fountain was it was choreographed to music!!! The water would rise and fall to the sound of the music.

The beautiful sunrise on Saturday as we headed out, towards the US, then Mexico.

We did a lot of other cool things, and had some other amazing foods! I found out the refried beans taste better than they look!? It was great experience, and definitely an eye opener as to how blessed we are to have the things we consider a “necessity!” (Which you’ll hear more about in tomorrow’s post!!!)
