Touring

Thank goodness the words were flowing because in the four hours it took to get from Donnie and Carrie’s to Halifax I wrote my Newfoundland post. I guess that’s what happens when you use 50 pictures…? Anyway we attended a Bible Reading Conference over the weekend – which was fascinating and I got to meet up with my friends from PEI, plus make some new ones!!! I hope to see you guys again soon!!!

Does the word “dramatic” cover it…?? Matthew Cain and family took us to downtown Halifax on Monday where we visited the Pier 21 museum. Which is why Lanaya is pretending to be a grumpy inspections officer. I guess if anyone was trying to sneak in they would be so intimidated by her scowl they’d just turn themselves in…?

The nurses checked us out before we were able to leave the museum – thankfully we all passed with a clean bill of health!?

As we walked along the boardwalk searching for somewhere to eat lunch we came across this wave… And when you see a wave – you surf it, right?!?

After walking along for a while we found a hot dog stand! Thank you SO much for lunch, Matthew and Esther!

On the way back to the car we watched some glass blowers – isn’t it amazing what they can do by blowing in a rod…?

Apparently Petty’s Cove has the most photographed lighthouse in the world. Which I could totally believe – because every tourist, that I saw, took at least one picture of the lighthouse.? Including me…

The signs all tell you to stay off the black rocks because they are so slippery! The reason they’re black is because they’re wet from waves washing over them. In fact, every year people stand on the rocks, get washed off by a wave and then can not climb back out because the rocks are so slippery. But I’ve got to say how tempting it is to find out how slippery the rocks really are…?

Another rather dramatic picture of Lanaya…?

To finish off our visit at Peggy’s cove we built an inukshuk! Then we went on a quest for Donairs – which are, apparently, different from the ones on the west coast. Seeing as I have never had one on the west coast all I can say is that the ones on the east coast are delicious!!!? Thank you so much for your hospitality Matthew, Esther and family – we really appreciated it!

It’s crazy!!! The fact that we clicked over 50 000km this week is mind blowing!!!! The fact that we’ve been in the car for over 500 hours, all together, is bum numbing!?

The sunset at our campsite between Halifax and Quebec City that night was gorgeous!!!?

Upon arriving in Quebec on Wednesday evening we set out to explore and find a beach. This bridge was super funky looking – almost looks as though it is being reflected in water.

We climbed a tower and watched some guys fishing off the dock below us. Two guys caught catfish while we were watching – but one of the guys lost his fish before he could get it up onto the dock.

Some artist made a super cool herd of horses along the side of the road! The patterns on them were some times made out of other animals or humans or trees – anything really, they were beautiful!

Another beautiful sunset somewhere along the St. Lawrence River!

My sisters – drawing in the sand…

On Thursday we toured Old Quebec! We started off in the citadel – where we took a tour of the Governor General’s residence! While we were waiting for the tour guide Cassia and Lanaya went a bit crazy…?

The tour taught us how the government worked – and what the Governor General’s roles were. There was a lot of artwork everywhere – some of which I probably could’ve recreated… Take the yellow canvas with a black blob in the middle… Easy peasy!??

For lunch we had crepes!!!!!!????????? We had dessert crepes because, “Life is short – eat dessert first!”

The after photo… Let’s just say that it is a very good thing we were walking around Old Quebec!?

We went underground to see the ruins of an old Governor General’s home and they had some costumes to try on…

We bought popcorn at one of the little shops – I’m pretty sure that was the best smelling store I have ever been in! It smelled sweet and salty and like fresh popcorn! …I’m getting hungry writing about it!?

This picture kind of captures some of the atmosphere among the little shops.

One house had a fancy mural painted on the side of it.

✅Let’s just check this one off of the bucket list!!! I have always wanted to go on one of these carriage rides and what better place to do it than in Old Quebec!?!

There were four fountains set up throughout the city for the animals, one was an original from way back then, and the other three were replicas! I definitely do NOT recommend drinking out of the fountains…?

We also saw the Canada 150 tulips near the Plains of Abraham! We learned the name is not a reference to the Bible but to some guy with the last name of Abraham.

And of course you’ve got to have poutine while you’re in Quebec – so that night for supper I had poutine!

The next morning we went to see the most amazing waterfall at Parc de la Chute-Montmorency. To get to the bottom we had to go down 478 stairs and to come back up we had to climb 478 stairs.? When we got to the top Dad cheerfully announced that we had just saved $40 by not riding the available gondola! Still not sure if it was worth it…?

See those puny little people standing down on the platform near the bottom of the falls…? That’s us – getting our second showers of the day…?

Mom and I were twinning… Trust me – we didn’t plan that.? This was the suspension bridge right on top of the falls – it was really cool to look down and see the falls falling!?

Dad’s first chocolate dipped cone – at the age of forty!!!!???

One last view of the waterfall, as we drive by it on our way home.

Seeing Halifax and touring Old Quebec was beautiful! If you ever have some extra spending money and need a relaxing vacation – I would go to Old Quebec! You could spend days slowly wandering around; seeing the sights, wandering through the shops, and eating at the many restaurants lining the streets. It is a beautiful place!❤️

P.S. We’ll be home in about six weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very informative post Raquenna and makes us want to visit Quebec City. Did you get the recipe for the crepes? Who is Donnie and Carrie? How many weeks before you get to us in Vancouver? Want me to make some crepes for you so that you can compare. We are getting very excited. Love Grandad and Grandma.

No, we didn’t get the recipe – but as long as they’re made of white flour, they’re awesome!? We stayed with Donnie and Carrie while we were up in Cape Breton several weeks ago, and then on our way to and from Newfoundland! We’ll see you around the end of August!!! Can’t wait! Raquenna❤️

Good post. Your Dad sounds like my Dad with taking the stairs instead of paying for the ride. Of course they are brothers……
